Portfolio 9: Teaching Pronunciation: Why, What, When and How

Gloria Poedjosoedarmo

Reference

This booklet addresses questions about the way, what, when and how of teaching pronunciation. The author explains why teachers need to teach pronunciation, what aspects of pronunciation teachers should focus on, and in what ways teachers can approach the
teaching of pronunciation. Common pronunciation problems that can cause misunderstanding are highlighted in the booklet and ways of dealing with these problems are offered. Tasks throughout the booklet help teachers reflect on their own beliefs and approaches to teaching pronunciation and consider innovative activities for developing activities and lessons appropriate for their own unique teaching situations.
